Designer Spotlight: Bobby McAlpine

For years now I have followed the work of architect, interior designer, and furniture designer Bobby McAlpine. Being a designer from Charlotte, NC, its almost as important as knowing how to read. Southerners especially are infatuated by his romantic, refined, classically inspired interiors, and it's not hard to see why. His soothing, earthy palattes, southern influence, and overall approach to design leaves you breathless, and dying to see more.

I'm always interested to see how my favorite american designers and architects translate over here in Australia because the houses are so different. In the south we use a lot of furniture, a lot of accessories, mixing antiques and more 'contemporary' pieces together (although I don't think Australians would consider them very contemporary!). The most contemporary we get is a ghost chair, or maybe a lucite coffee table. We love our columns, our linen, our sea grass rugs, and our table skirts. And if it has room for a monogram, you bet it's there. So i'm interested to see what the Aussie contingent has to say about these images... I could have gone on for hours with photos of his work, but these are my favorites.

OHH, and I LOVE the bongo stools...

If you love these images, take a look at his gorgeous furniture line, McAlpine Home. The upholstered pieces are through the fabulous Lee Industries (out of NC, of course!) and the casegoods are by MacRae in Atlanta.

Hope everyone has a fabulous, glamorous, spectacular Wednesday!
